Some Powder Horn Projects

Components of a small powder horn for my grandson. Since the horn was so short I added a piece of pine to the inside of the plug material so as to make the plug longer and give the whole horn a longer look

Finished horn except for pour spout plug. The end plug is pinned with 1/8" dowels and glued with Acraglass Gel.

My own horn nearly complete. This horn came from the same head as the ugly horn below. Not much character in this horn but it has been on many an adventure with me in it's previous form as below only sans the paint.

Here's what happened to my horn when I tried to drill out the pour spout to a larger diameter.  Also gave me a pretty good twist to my  wrist when the drill bit bound up! The horn on the right will be the new one.

This is a horn I just finished for my son in law.  It started out in the rough and was pretty old and dry.  There was a false sheeth over half of the horn toward the point.  While scraping it down, I thought I had it just about right and then the scraper broke through.  There was an air gap of about 1/16 inch and then another layer of horn.  It was like starting all over.

Worlds ugliest powder horn. Made 23 years ago. This was for my wife and was orange to suit her concerns over safety! This horn will be re-done, so this is the "before" photo.
