ALR Postal Match

Home

This page is home to the American Longrifles (ALR) postal match.  The match is open only to members of ALR.

This page contains all the rules and timeframe to follow in order to participate.

There will be a list of entrants maintained here as entries are received by Daryl.  When the shoot is completed and scored, the final results will also be posted here.

So, to get started, here are the rules for the shoot.

Rules

These are the rules as posted by Daryl on the ALR thread (a sticky) titled Postal Match Rules in the Black Powder Shooting forum.  If you have questions about the rules or the shoot, please address them to Daryl on the ALR board.  No email addresses will be posted on this page.

Click here to view or download a single bull sample of the official five bull target.

Targets will be sent to you by Daryl. They are like the one he posted on the forum thread.  It provides a reasonable sight picture for most open sights. It has 5 bulls. 1 shot per bull.

It will be the "Official" target and have your 'handle', written on it.  Please send gun info with your entry fee, ie: CALIBRE, POWDER & CHARGE, BALL SIZE, PATCH & LUBE PARTICULARS, FLINT, PERC, MATCHLOCk.  Send your entry payable by International Money Order, cheque or cash.

Send your entry fee to Daryl.  His address is posted on the ALR postal match thread. Fees are; $3.00 to cover mailing and target. You can enter more than once, $3.00 for one target, $5.00 for 3, $7.00 for 4, etc. One practice target will be sent to each entrant.

Entry date - targets must be returned postmarked by 15th of May, 2006

Daryl will keep track of the number of targets each person has. Every target WILL be returned and scored. Multiple targets from one shooter will be agg'd. That is, an aggregate or average string measure will be computed for a separate category, minimum of 2 targets for the agg score.

If you want to practice on these bulls, you can go to Staples or some other 'like' stationary place, and they will photocopy an Official target for you for pennies per target - or - scan one bull 5 times and make up your own practice 'target' on printing/ink-jet paper. It will not be an official target though.

Rules of Engagement:
1/. Open iron sights only
2/. Position - cross sticks from sitting position on the ground only
3/. no peep or aperture sights
4/. 50 yards
5/. hunting-type rifles only - no target rifles (questions? e-mail me)
6/. patched round balls only - no conicals or slugs
7/. 1 shot only per bull. There are 5 bulls per target.
9/. Scoring by string measure - centre of the bull to centre of the hole.
9/.- ALL official targets to be returned, shot or not.
10/. if you want to use a percussion-lock system OK - but note, they're unreliable and they'll never catch on but if you want to be different - go for it.
NOTE: There is no 'handicap' scoring for cap-gun shooters.

The Shooters, in no particular order
